BRONX, N.Y. — Yankees closer Devin Williams refused to enter Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays until the bullpen lighting was adjusted to what he described as "something that reflects where I am emotionally right now."
"The overhead fluorescent is a 5000K daylight," Williams said. "That's a setup man's light. I need something in the 2700 to 3000 range. Warm. A little amber. Like a cabin in November."
Manager Aaron Boone has stopped discussing the lighting publicly. When asked about it Tuesday he said "I know" and walked into a wall.
The Blue Jays won 6-4 while Williams remained in the bullpen evaluating an amber gel filter FedExed from a theatrical supply company in Secaucus, New Jersey. He rated it "promising but derivative."
